Book Review 'Lighting the Blue Flame'

The gap between knowledge and how to practically implement a theory, idea, or framework sees great research often under utilized in the real world.

In the area of mental health, bullying, and PTSD, often the regular person feels as if they have no tools in their toolbox to deal with these issues as they arise be it at home, workplace, or amongst friends.

Clint Adam's is a pragmatic author who has written 'Lighting the Blue Flame' to bridge that gap.

His unique career has seen him work as a Police Officer, study psychology and rehabilitation, work with refugees, and hold a number of senior HR roles.

It is this background that has allowed Clint to write a book that is both informative and practical.

The book takes form as a story. At each point in the practical or theoretical parts of the book, you are invited to follow links or Q Codes to dig deeper into parts that you want to know more about. It is very clever as it ensures that the reader is in the driver's seat choosing which content they want to learn more about depending on what is relevant to them.

When asked what motivated him to pen this book Clint responded:

"The book initially started off as a school program idea I came up with when I was seeing data on how many young teens were on anti depressants and being bullied and showing other social and emotional symptoms as a result. The intent was to help educate the educators on what we could do to enhance personal resilience and set up good routines in the schools to help with providing good dialogue skills for the students, so they get used to having tough conversations and feeling more comfortable to deal with issues as they arise.

Over time, I incorporated these ideas and initiatives into a story based around someone who commits suicide and then me as a character is there to help those affected by the suicide. I take into account how they are all affected, from the bully, the parents, the school, the friends and the other students. I have had a close friend commit suicide when I was in my early 20’s so it has always been an issue that I have also held quite close to my heart."

If you are looking for a pragmatic book that tackles challenging issues that face us all today, I would recommend reading "Lighting the Blue Flame".
